When you need to close the practice for holidays, or other events, instead of just blocking off the operatories in the schedule, the best thing to do is to close the practice on that day in the Appointment Book. Closing the day will ensure that the day will not be counted as available time when scheduling patient appointments. Your weekly and monthly production totals will also not be affected.

Closing the office for a holiday that occurs on the same date each year, such as Christmas and Independence Day, is pretty straightforward and will only need to be done once.

However, for holiday’s that don’t fall on the same date each year, such as Thanksgiving, you’ll need to close your practice every year for those holidays. It’s important to set your practice’s hours correctly so you will be home to enjoy Thanksgiving dinner with your family and friends. In this example, let’s say your practice will be taking a half day on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and a full day on Thanksgiving.

How To

For holidays that fall on the same day each year, such as Christmas:

  1. In the Appointment Book, from the Setup menu, select Clinic Schedule.
  2. Navigate to the correct date in the Calendar (such as Dec 25).
  3. From the Office Closed menu, select Set Yearly Holiday on selected day.
Select Set Yearly Holiday on selected day.

For holidays that don’t fall on the same date each year, such as Thanksgiving:

Let’s schedule a half-day before Thanksgiving:

  1. From the Setup menu, select Clinic Schedule.
  2. Browse the calendar to the desired date.
  3. Double-click the desired day.
  4. Delete the afternoon hours from the Set Time Limits dialog box.
  5. Click OK.

Now let’s close the practice for Thanksgiving Day itself:

  1. From the Setup menu, select Clinic Schedule.
  2. Navigate to the correct date in the Calendar.
  3. From the Office Closed menu, select Close Office on selected date.
  4. Click Close.
